PAIS wants solution sports conflict

Eugene CleopaWILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament for the coalition party PAIS, Eugene Cleopa wants to know from the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Ivar Asjes how long it will take before the current conflict in the sport sector is resolved. But according to Asjes the ball is not in his court, but with the sports foundations themselves.

There is a conflict in sport since the government has decided to put a stop to the subsidy for sports foundations Sedreko and Fundashon Fasilidatnan Deportivo Kòrsou (FFDK is in charge of the sport facilities), on January 1, 2015.

Since that date, the duties of both foundations were transferred to the new sports organization Fundashon Desaroyo Deportivo Korsou (FDDK).

Sedreko and FFDK refuse to transfer their properties to the new foundation until the government make arrangements with them about taking over their debts.

Cleopa states in a letter to Asjes that he is very concerned about the state of affairs in sport in Curaçao. He indicates that the parties currently forming the coalition agreed that there should be a national sports institute. In the meantime, there is the FDDK, but this foundation has led to some situation that does not have the approval of his party. This situation is that there are many athletes and young people who cannot use the sport facilities.

The PAIS MP points out that the ordinance basic education and the ordinance secondary education stipulates that all school children should receive physical education.

Cleopa believes that the Prime Minister is violating the law by not giving the children the opportunity to receive physical education. This is an unacceptable situation, he notes.
