Parliamentary questions from SP: Will the Netherlands help Curaçao in the refugee crisis?

Ronald van RaakTHE HAGUE - The Dutch SP party wants to hear from Minister Blok (Foreign Affairs) and Undersecretary Knops (Kingdom Relations) whether the Netherlands is prepared to assist Curaçao in the reception of Venezuelan refugees.

Members of Parliament Ronald van Raak and Jasper van Dijk have submitted written questions about what they refer to as 'the refugee crisis' in Curaçao on Friday.

"Is it correct that Curaçao made a request for assistance to the Netherlands? If so, what specific assistance did Curaçao exactly request? Can you meet this request for assistance? If not, how can you help in this refugee crisis in Curaçao?"

Van Raak and Van Dijk also came back to the agreement that Blok made during his April visit to Caracas with the Venezuelan government: "Can you exclude that the return of refugees to Venezuela is part of the agreements that have been made between the Netherlands and Venezuela for reopening the border earlier this year between Venezuela and Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire?"

Yesterday it became clear that the influx of Venezuelans to Curaçao and Aruba is not high on the agenda of the Kingdom Government. In the weekly press conference following the end of the Council of Ministers, Vice Prime Minister De Jonge answered the question of whether it discussed in the Council of Ministers with a brief 'No'.
