Pechtold critical on Rutte’s attitude about the islands
THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch MP Alexander Pechtold thinks that the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte’s attitude about the Caribbean Kingdom is too simplistic. Pechtold believes that the Dutch Prime Minister cannot say that all Caribbean politicians are the same.
The Dutch MP and leader of the D66 party, who is a former Minister of Kingdom Relations also believes that Rutte is not giving the islands enough attention, especially the positive developments.
The immediate reason for his decision were the words of the King during the throne speech on Budget Day, the underworld and the islands are intertwined.
Rutte said they agreed that not all politicians on the islands are the same, but nevertheless he finds it worrisome situation, especially on St. Maarten.
That is why there substantial additional capital invested, also in the police force capacity. The Dutch Prime Minister said that he cannot talk too much about it publicly, but he asked parliament no to underestimate the situation. This is a serious issue, said Rutte.
