Period implementation plan prison possibly extended

Nelson NavarroWILLEMSTAD - It is important that the period for the implementation of the Plan of Action SDKK (prison) is extended, according to the Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro. He has therefore submitted a request to the Minister of Kingdom Relations Ronald Plasterk, during his working visit to the Netherlands.

Opstelten would like to receive the request in writing from the Minister, so that it can be discussed during the Kingdom Council of Ministers. Navarro has already commissioned his ministry to perform this task, said the Minister at the weekly press conference in Fort Amsterdam.

Navarro should substantiate why the period should be extended. This is the second extension request submitted.

"In accordance with the National Governing Ordinance the costs associated with the implementation of the plan of action is split between Curaçao and the Netherlands. For the period of 2012, 2013 and 2014 is 11.5 million dollars budgeted and we need enough time and space to outsource this in a responsible manner. We do not have the capacity to achieve this in a shorter period of time,” the Minister said.

According to Navarro, the progress committee, which gives a quarterly report on the progress of the projects outlined in the plan, also found that there is a delay in the implementation.

He has discussed this with Opstelten, who also believes that it is advisable to extend the period. The written request shall be submitted as soon as possible.

According to Navarro, he will then be informed of the decision made by the Council of Ministers within the next few weeks.
