Plasterk: “Monitoring elections in the Kingdom”
WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch Minister of Kingdom Relations and Internal Affairs, Ronald Plasterk will consult with the governments of Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten in order to arrive at a common system for ensuring the fairness of elections in the entire Kingdom.
The minister made that commitment this week during a debate with the Parliamentary Committee for Kingdom Relations. Following the recurrent rumors on the islands on the recruitment or buying of votes, Roelof van Laar MP came with the idea to create wide agreements on public oversight of elections in the Kingdom.
The Minister said though to occasionally feel for the idea to allow independent observers to monitor elections in the Kingdom and has promised to the MPs that he will discuss this with the other countries.
