Premier Rhuggenaath participates High Level Political Forum in New York

Rhuggenaath2WILLEMSTAD, NEW YORK - The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) is currently being held in New York. This is a forum of the highest political level of the United Nations (UN) with regard to Agenda 2030. A global agenda with sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations in September 2015.

In the last three days of the forum, July 17 – 19, a ministerial meeting will be held. The Curaçao Prime Minister, Eugene Rhuggenaath will participate together with the Dutch minister of International Relations and Development Cooperation Netherlands, Lilianne Ploumen and the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten William Marlin.

Curaçao has committed itself to the Agenda 2030 as set out in the Curaçao National Development Plan (NDP) and has already achieved milestones in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

During the convention, the delegations will exchange views, mainly on how to end poverty (SDG 1); Ending hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture (SDG 2); Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3); Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG 5); Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation (SDG 9); Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development (SDG 14).

According to a press release emitted by the Office of the Prime Minister, most of these priorities require urgent attention in Curaçao as well as activities to increase living standards for every citizen the island, which is also the priority of the current government.
