Prime Minister: “Government will not use public funds to pay contract workers”
WILLEMSTAD – According to the Prime Minister Dr. Bernhard Whiteman, the government will not use funds from public companies to pay the contract workers of the oil refinery. “We can’t use these funds to solve a problem between the employees, the contractors and the oil refinery,” said the Prime Minister during the weekly press conference of the Council of Ministers.
Whiteman indicated that there is no legal basis to use these public funds in a conflict between parties in a private sector as is the case now.
The government recommends the parties to continue their negotiations and find a solution that will benefit all of them. The government is willing to support the negotiations by offering the service of the mediator.
This is how the Prime Minister answered the question from the standing committee on social development in parliament.
Earlier this week the committee, headed by Jaime Cordoba MP, requested help from the government. In this letter, the MP asked the government for financial assistance through the funds from the public companies in the energy sector.
