PS starts process for new Minister SOAW

Melvin CijntjeWILLEMSTAD – Parliamentary Faction Leader of the coalition party Pueblo Soberano, Melvin Cijntje, says that the party will start deliberating on a successor for the Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW). The faction leader emphasizes that Jeanne-Marie Francisca was no longer a minister since last Friday when the members of the coalition in parliament unanimously voted to dismiss her as a minister.

Jean-Marie Francisca still believes that she is a Minister. According to her, the coalition could have passed a motion of no confidence, but that still doesn’t mean that she has to resign. The normal procedure is that after a minister loses the confidence of the majority in parliament, he or she will have to resign. This takes place through the Governor of Curaçao. According to our sources, she has not done so.

Melvin Cijntje was very much annoyed and said, “I suspect that there is something wrong with Mrs. Francisca, she still says she is a minister. After the motion for her resignation was adopted last Friday, it was sent to the Governor.”

Former MP, Edgar Leito says that he is furious about the way the Minister was treated by her own party members in Parliament. “She did not get the opportunity to speak and defend herself. She was present in parliament at that moment, but was not given the opportunity to speak. This is against the rules and procedures of a democracy,” Leito indicated.
