Pueblo Soberano party also recognizes gay community needs equal rights
WILLEMSTAD – Representatives of all governments in the Kingdom agree: homosexuals should have equal rights in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
The Dutch Minister of Emancipation, Jet Bussemaker and the Ministers plenipotentiary of Curaçao and Sint Maarten in The Hague have received a ‘wish package’ from gay organizations on the islands.
The Curaçao government is in favor of "equal rights for all," assures Minister Plenipotentiary Marvelyne Wiels. Her party Pueblo Soberano (PS) was, despite opposition from fellow party member and lawmaker Winifred Raveneau, an advocate to provide the so-called LGBT of equal rights.
Raveneau resisted fiercely in 2013 against the Curaçao Gay Pride.
Because of that the LGBT organization was granted an exceptionally rigorous permit at the last moment, so the festivities could be held only at the Floris Suite Hotel.
