Queen Beatrix, masha danki for 33 years

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao took notice of the announcement from Her Majesty Queen Beatrix and in a special press communiqué thanked Queen Beatrix for what she meant to us in 33 years as head of state. The government further wrote that ‘in the hearts of the people the queen will always be remembered for her love and compassion, come rain or shine’.

In this communiqué Premier Daniel Hodge applauded the skills and the decisiveness of the Queen of the Netherlands. “The government of Curaçao expressed its sincere appreciation of the queen for her performance as head of state. Although the work of a head of state is not easy these days, she proved during her term of office that she has the grace, intelligence and strength to lead the Dutch Kingdom whatever the circumstances. She always pled for unity, rest and peace in the Kingdom. Just like her predecessors, Queen Beatrix leaves behind a heritage.”

There is also appreciation for the warmth with which the queen always embraced the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. “In her speech, Her Majesty, Queen Beatrix, mentioned the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This reflects the warm bond she has with us. Six months after she became queen she flew to Curaçao and the other islands of the then Netherlands Antilles for working visit. Her last visit to Curaçao, together with prince Willem-Alexander and princess Máxima, was in November 2011. During each of her visits the people of Curaçao welcomed her cordially, with open arms and love.”

With Queen Beatrix abdicating from the throne, the Kingdom will have a male head of state since 122 years and the government of Curaçao congratulates prince Willem-Alexander with his succession to the throne on April 30th. Premier Hodge concludes his press communiqué with wishes and a promise: “We wish you all the best, queen. You will always have a special place in our hearts.”
