Rally against arrest former Prime Minister

MFK_protestWILLEMSTAD – Supporters of the former Prime Minister of Curacao, Gerrit Schotte, held a rally against the arrest of their leader and his partner Cicely van der Dijs.

The demonstration was also attended by employees of the Vandis gas and service stations. Cicely Van der Dijs is the director of these stations.

Schotte’s supporters gather at the Wilhelminaplein in the early hours of the morning. This is because they assumed that Schotte and his partner Cicely van der Dijs would appear before the magistrate in the morning. But they found out later that both will arrive in the afternoon.

The protesters walked to the temple, the building where the Public Prosecutor is established, and asked for a meeting with Chief Officer, Heiko de Jongh. However, he was only willing to talk with a delegation of three persons. This was rejected by the protestors.

They demanded that De Jongh would come to speak to the protesters outside. He did not react to their demand. The demonstrator did not accept this and started to protest out loud. This was for the police reason to block all entrances to the downtown area.

After consultation with the authorities, the demonstrators marched to the Wilhelmina Square in anticipation of the arraignment of Schotte and Van der Dijs in the afternoon.
