Rhuggenaath: “As new government we will evaluate the financial situation of Curaçao”

Eugene-RhuggenaathWILLEMSTAD – As a new government, Cabinet Rhuggenaath, has the intention to assess the financial situation of the island. This is according to the new Prime Minister of Curaçao, Eugene Rhuggenaath. As was reported earlier, this morning Governor Lucille George-Wout will swear in the new cabinet consisting of the political parties PAR, MAN and PIN, with Ruggenaath at the helm.

“One of the first measures is a financial assessment. As we have noted in the media, Curaçao’s financial situation is worrisome. We have to see what the reality is,” said the new Prime Minister.

More than a month ago, Rhuggenaath emitted a press release as a reaction to what the then Prime Minister of Curaçao, Gilmar Pisas said about the financial situation of the island. Pisas indicated that the situation was “really bad and almost bankrupt”. Rhuggenaath said in his press release that Pisas’ declarations were irresponsible, not based on the truth and that it could have negative consequences for the economy. He asked Pisas to clarify his statement and to rectify. Pisas did not do this.
