Rhuggenaath: No guarantees about future Isla, but focus on solutions

RhuggenaathWILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath cannot give any guarantees about the future of the Isla refinery, but he can guarantee that the focus is on scenarios that keep the refinery open and solve the problems.

At the moment and in view of the economic situation, employment at the refinery is too important. "We must now focus on productivity and economic growth. Then we can create a path for possibly new industries and economic activities.”

The highest priority now is to sign an agreement with a party for the short term. This is followed by a meeting with PDVSA about this partner and investments that have to be made. Rhuggenaath emphasizes that sustainable energy is something that is on the agenda.

“This is personal! I am a child of the refinery. Here my parents got to know each other, and otherwise, I might not even have been here. We work with heart and soul to keep the refinery open and modernize it."

This was according to the Premier during a special parliamentary meeting on the state of affairs with regard to finding a new strategic partner for the refinery.
