Rosaria: ‘Afpakteam active within two years’

Alex RosariaWILLEMSTAD - Outstanding fines and tax arrears will be collected from arrested criminals. This was declared by the PAIS party leader Alex Rosaria in the media. The party wants to follow the Dutch example, were criminal profits and other funds from criminal activities are taken away.

According to Rosaria of the blue party the money can be used to pay for the imprisonment of a criminal. Also, compensation to victims can be paid that way. Rosaria also believes that compensations should be increased considerably just like in the United States.

Own maintenance

The so-called ‘afpakteam’, which is a team that is in charge of going after criminal’s money, should be self-sufficient. “Results from other countries indicate that there is enough money coming in and money going to the Crime Fund,” Rosario said. The legislation, according to the party leader, has largely been completed already, but he thinks it will take about two to three years for the ‘afpakteam’ to start in Curacao. “It is now about coordination and execution to bring the various parties together, including Tax Department, Prosecution and Special Investigation Team,” Rosario indicated.
