Rosaria condemns verbal attack on local judges
WILLEMSTAD – The leader of the coalition party PAIS and Member of Parliament, Alex Rosaria, condemned the verbal attack on the court and local judges.
Lawyers Eldon 'Peppie' Sulvaran and Paula Janssen had, on behalf of their clients Gerrit Schotte and Cicely van der Dijs filed a request to have judges from the Netherlands fly to Curaçao to treat the appeal in the Babel case. According to the defendants, they have no trust in the judges on the island. They are not objective, said one of the lawyers.
Rosaria said in response that it is unacceptable for "whoever to use the police to sow distrust in our courts and our democracy because the court convicted him for crimes he committed.”
Former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte was convicted by the court of first instance to three years in prison for abuse of power, money laundering and forgery.
