Rosaria: “Curaçao still a tax haven”
WILLEMSTAD – The leader of the PAIS faction in Parliament, Alex Rosaria is upset about an American document which mentions Curaçao as a tax haven. The PAIS MP believes that the Minister of Finance, Jose Jardim should take a look into this and oppose the content of this document.
Rosaria indicated that when he was a junior minister in the former Netherlands Antilles he worked hard to ensure that Curaçao would be placed on the ‘white list’ of countries that are not tax havens.
“To prevent damage to the reputation of our country, the Minister, together with the financial sector of the island, must correct this,” writes Rosaria.
The document referred to by the MP is the District of Columbia Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Support Act of 2015. In a list of 39 tax havens Curaçao is not named as such, but as part of the former island of the Netherlands Antilles. Aruba is also on the list.
Rosaria states that Curaçao has been strictly maintaining the rules and treaties on the exchange of information since 2009. He asks the Minister of Finance if he knows about this publication and whether he agrees with the PAIS faction that it is harmful for the reputation of Curaçao.
