Rosaria demands clarity from Prime Minister
WILLEMSTAD – The leader of the coalition party PAIS, Alex Rosaria MP, wants to know from the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Ivar Asjes why both the Minister Plenipotentiary, Marvelyne Wiels and her replacement Robert Candelaria were not present at the Ambassadors’ Conference last month in the Netherlands.
Rosaria cannot stimulate any understanding for the lack of Curaçao’s participation at this meeting, which is aimed at a better use of ambassadors and international trade.
In a letter to Asjes, Rosaria expresses his frustration at the lack of interest of both Wiels and Candelaria to be part of this conference, because the current government has continuously supported strong economic diplomacy to expand the international business opportunities for Curaçao.
“In this context, the policy document 'Looking for a new and more independent foreign trade policy' was written, which has now been adopted by parliament. This topic has also been discussed at three meetings of the Interparliamentary Kingdom Conference (IPKO). During these meetings it was agreed that Curaçao will make more use of Kingdom ambassadors, especially in our region," said the leader of the coalition party.
These agreements resulting from the IPKO meetings, indicate, according to Rosaria, that when consultations between ambassadors and members of the Dutch Parliament takes place, representatives of Curaçao are also invited.
The goal, according to the PAIS leader, is to better inform the embassies about Curaçao. The absence of representatives of the Curaçao representation in the Netherlands is for Rosaria reason to propose a series of questions to the Prime Minister, who is accountable for the Minister Plenipotentiary.
Rosaria wants to know, among other things, whether the Prime Minister supports the importance of economic diplomacy and the Curaçao representatives attending the Ambassadors’ Conference.
Also, the PAIS leader wants to know whether the government has received an official invitation, or if the government has decided to send a delegation to the conference and if an authorization or mandate exists regarding Curaçao's participation in this conference.
Finally Rosaria wants the assurance that Curaçao will not stay away from similar meetings in the future.
