Ruling party advocates for an Energy Committee
WILLEMSTAD – The ruling party, Pueblo Soberano (PS) wants a temporary Standing Committee in Parliament on Energy. In a statement the party writes to be happy that other factions in Parliament also see the importance of such committee.
The tasks of the Committee are to inform themselves on the development of a
LNG plant, a cleaner energy source for the Isla refinery, CRU and the utility company Aqualectra. The Committee should also monitor the process of the modernization of the refinery and gather information about the process of gas and oil extraction.
Another important task is to discuss a sustainable energy policy. The activities
the committee are discussed in Parliament. Central to this is the question of to what extent does the public benefit from the energy policy.
According to the PS, Parliament must hold a debate on energy to keep the public informed about developments at local and global level and the importance of an energy policy for the island.
