Ruling party PS has new chairman
WILLEMSTAD - As expected, Edward Joseph, will serve as the chairman of the ruling party Pueblo Soberano (PS) for the next two years. He started his second term last Saturday.
His election was basically a done deal, according to party members. Current Prime Minister, Ivar Asjes and Werner Wiels, brother of the murdered former political leader and founder of the party, Helmin Wiels, withdrew their candidacy just a few days before the election.
Asjes heavily criticized the situation in the party. The prime minister said the elections were not fair and transparent.
But part of the group did not agree with his candidacy. According to them, with the party chairmanship Asjes would have too much power in Pueblo Soberano.
