Schotte and Van der Dijs possibly without lawyer
WILLEMSTAD – Former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte and his life partner Cicely van der Dijs might be without a lawyer during their appeal case. According to the morning newspaper Extra, Schotte’s lawyer Eldon Sulvaran withdrew from the case. Both Schotte and Van der Dijs are scheduled to appear in court on August 11 of this year.
That’s the day of the pre trial in the appeal of the Babel case. Apparently, Sulvaran withdrew since late June. It is not known why he is no longer the lawyer of the former Prime Minister and his life partner. The date of the pre-trial of the appeal will now likely be changed according to the newspaper.
Schotte and Van der Dijs were convicted of forgery, money laundering and bribery by the court of first instance. The former Prime Minister was sentenced to three years in prison, but he appealed the case. Van der Dijs received eighteen months and she also appealed the court ruling.
