Schotte: “Arrest is political persecution”

Schotte3WILLEMSTAD - Former Prime Minister and leader Gerrit Schotte MFK calls his arrest a political persecution and says that he saw it coming.

He is also unhappy about the conditions of the detention center at Barber. The former prime minister believes that his arrest was accompanied by an unnecessary show of force. Schotte was set free last night after a request from his lawyer for immediate release.

The embattled MP is also convinced that the Public Prosecution wants to stop his political fight. He says that he will not give up the fight; however, he stressed, and also demanded elections as soon as possible. Schotte does not want is to wait until 2016.

Schotte and his partner Cicely van der Dijs were arrested last Tuesday on suspicion of forgery and money laundering. Van der Dijs was released two days later. Both are still suspects in the criminal investigation called 'Babel'.
