Schotte: “Cabinet Asjes and Coalition are making education inaccessible”

Schotte_merchantsWILLEMSTAD – According to the leader of the opposition party MFK, Gerrit Schotte, it now appears that on March 26 and April 9 of this year, the current government took measures against the guarantee of the students to develop professionally.

On April 9 it was the Government decided to cut in subsidy for extra training hours, for the financing of students who want to continue at a higher level in vocational school (SBO) and they raised the norms for students who want to transfer from vocational schools TKL/SBO to Higher Secondary Education (HAVO).

Not it appears that the Government also took measures against the highest level of education here on the island by raising the tuition fees with 1000 guilders for bachelor’s degree and 2000 more for the master’s degree.

In an e-mail from last Friday with the title “adjustment tuition fees”, the students of the University of Curaçao (UoC) received the information about the tuition increase.

“The current coalition which supports Cabinet Asjes in Fort Amsterdam has lied to parliament again,” Schotte said. In a Parliament meeting on June 19, Minister Dick (education) was asked if they had taken more measures against the students or if they are going to take more measures against them. She answered no to both questions. Now it appears that the decision of March 26 was not shared with Parliament.

The current government and its coalition definitely don’t care about the development of the people in this country. They don’t care about the pensioners who gave so much to this country and now the government clearly shows that they don’t care about the youth who are preparing themselves to contribute to the future or Curaçao.
