Schotte’s trips to USA and Venezuela questioned

Schotte with Haitian delegationWILLEMSTAD – The last trips of former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte to the United States and Venezuela have diplomatic consequences. This is according to member of Parliament for PAR, Zita Jesus-Leito in a letter to Prime Minister Daniel Hodge.

According to the Dutch Consulate in San Fransisco, Gerrit Schotte was recently at the private training session of the Dutch Baseball team. Schotte presented himself as the Prime Minister of Curacao so he can get access to the baseball team. Member of Parliament for PAIS, Alex Rosaria was the first one to question this during a public meeting of Parliament.

Jesus-Leito wonders whether it is normal that a Consul-General can give this kind of information to a member of Parliament. Besides this, the PAR member wants to know if it is acceptable that Schotte was present at the funeral of President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela as a member of the Haitian delegation. Jesus-Leito thinks that the actions of Schotte are a lack of respect for the Prime Minister of Curaçao and the diplomatic relations of the country and the Kingdom.
