Shortened closure time for electoral registration affects Osepa

WILLEMSTAD - Minister Plenipotentiary Sheldry Osepa will not stand as one of the candidates on the MFK list in the forthcoming elections. This has to do with the fact that the electoral roll closes earlier than 30 days. Osepa is namely registered in Netherlands and had 30 days to register himself at the Registrar’s Office on Curaçao. The closure for registration of candidates is on August 31, 2012 and according to the law the electoral register has to be closed 30 days before that, but this was not taken into account when elections were called. "The day after the fall of the Government, elections were called, so I had no time to get myself enrolled," said Osepa. The Minister wanted to stand as a candidate and finds it very unfortunate that he will not appear on the MFK list.
