Signing of MoU to strengthen commercial ties between Dutch Caribbean islands

MoUWILLEMSTAD - On March 16th, representatives of the Dutch Caribbean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ernst & Young and the government of Curaçao have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the commercial ties between the Caribbean islands in the kingdom.

The hurricanes that caused a great damage to the Windward Islands last year is the reason we have decided to sign this MoU. From March 17th till 20th, we have organized a meeting for the business community of the islands in the Kingdom. This was a collaboration between EY Dutch Caribbean, Center of Excellence for SIDS, Dutch Caribbean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 360 degrees of innovation foundation, and Present Your Startup Caribbean with the aim to help the economy of St. Maarten back on its feet. More than 100 companies have exchanged ideas and collaborate on innovation, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship with the aim of promoting the commercial ties between the Caribbean islands in the kingdom.

The MoU aims to facilitate this cooperation and should be seen as a first step to further strengthen the cooperation between the various stakeholders within the islands in the kingdom. The MoU also indicates that all parties involved will continue to exchange their expertise. Moreover, the parties have indicated that they will continue to work for the cooperation between the government and the business community. Attention will be paid to logistics, financial arrangements and programs for effective business operations. The intention is that the governments of the other islands in the Kingdom will also sign a MoU with all the stakeholders involved.
