Smoking in public areas not allowed

ParliamentWILLEMSTAD – It’s not allowed to smoke in public areas anymore. Also, all cigarette packs must now bear the warning label “Humamentu ta mortal”, “Roken is dodelijk” and “Smoking kills”, thus in all three languages (Papiamentu, Dutch and English). This new law was unanimously adopted by parliament this week.

The first bill was presented by the coalition party PAIS. The motion on adding the warning text on the cigarette packs was presented by the Independent Member of Parliament, Omayra Leeflang. Companies have six months’ time to prepare to make their place smoking free.
