SOAB starts investigation at MEO

de palmWILLEMSTAD – The Government Accountants Foundation (SOAB) has started an investigation into compliance with internal rules and procedures at the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO). This was confirmed by the Minister of Economic Development, Stanley Palm.

The minister did not want to go into details about the investigation and is extremely careful with the information. The investigation already started last week. SOAB officials have already visited the ministry in this regard.

The investigation relates to the disciplinary measures which were taken by the minister recently against some officials in the ministry. Vanessa Toré, Sector Director for Foreign Economic Cooperation, was denied access to the building for three months.

Two other members of the management team, Zulaika Mook and Luelo Girigorie, received a written reprimand. According to sources within the government a conflict started on the progress of the USONA projects. The minister felt that information was withheld from him.

This would have also been the reason why the minister wanted the SOAB to start an investigation into the actions of Toré. Toré was interim Secretary General of MEO from 2010 to 2013. Currently Geraldine Gaari is the highest official in the ministry.
