SOAB will investigate FDRS

Glenn SulvaranWILLEMSTAD - Government Accountants Bureau SOAB will start investigating the Fundashon Fondo pa Deporte i Responsabilidat Sosial, which translated means the Foundation for Sports and Social Responsibility Fund (FDRS). This foundation is an initiative of the Independent Member of Parliament, Glenn Sulvaran. The investigation was requested by the Ministry of Finance.

The foundation which is dedicated to reducing poverty was discredited because it appears that Sulvaran bought a vehicle of the brand Audi with the foundation’s money.

Last week during the budget debate, some Members of Parliament asked about this fund and requested information about the operations of this foundation. Some MP’s even filed a motion to temporarily suspend the subsidy allotted to this foundation by the Minister of Finance (who was appointed by Mr. Sulvaran). This motion was rejected by the majority of the MP’s.

Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim, on his own initiative, has ordered an investigation. Once the SOAB investigation is on the table, the Minister will determine what steps are necessary.

In the meantime, the other Independent Member of Parliament, the outspoken Omayra Leeflang, has filed a complaint against Malvina Cecilia who is the legal founder of the foundation. Leeflang accuses her of forgery, fraud and incitement to commit fraud.

Because there was no support in Parliament for an investigation, Leeflang was forced to file a complaint. She wants the Public Prosecutor to investigate the abuse of public money.
