Supreme Electoral Council may not depart from times for parties to present their lists
WILLEMSTAD - The Supreme Electoral Council cannot deviate from the statutory time within which the parties must submit their lists of candidates for the upcoming elections. This is according to the Council of State (RvA) in an advice to the Supreme Electoral Council.
In accordance with the electoral regulations, parties can only present their candidates between 9 am and 4 pm on the day of the nomination at the Registrar’s Office. The problem this year is that the Council expects at least 20 parties to present their lists on Monday, August 8.
During this day the Council must take into account Article 28 of the Election Rules. “This is imperative,” says the RvA. “In practice, this means that all parties wishing to participate in the elections are required to indicate which time in the 9 am to 4 pm slot they will submit their candidate’s list, as the Election Regulation does not allow the contrary.”
It will be a very busy day for the Supreme Electoral Council.
