The government is ready for hurricane season 2018

Disaster ManagementWILLEMSTAD - The Minister of General Affairs, Eugene Rhuggenaath, in his role as commander in chief during a calamity, met with the members of the Permanent Disaster Staff. This organization is comprised of national disaster coordinator, operational leader, national disaster coordinator medical, Chief of Police and secretary of the disaster management organization.

Some key stakeholders were also present during the presentation of the Meteorological Department and Red Cross Curaçao. All the above-mentioned entities and other organizations together form the Disaster Management Organization of Curaçao.

The objective of the meeting was to focus on the excellent job executed by the Curaçao team in St. Maarten last year. The team spoke about everything that was done before, during and after Hurricane Irma. They also focused on the important role of the Red Cross in their work during a crisis situation.

The team also spoke about the importance of preparing for the hurricane season. The Prime Minister talked about the good work of the civil servants during the hurricane in St. Maarten. He expects the same if something happens in Curaçao. Several of the orators explained their responsibilities and how they can coordinate with the other members of the team. Curaçao is ready if there should be any calamity.
