The minister did not threaten to withhold landing rights SLM

Zita-Jesus-LeitoWILLEMSTAD - Minister of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning Zita Jesus-Leito never threatened with the withdrawal of landing rights for the Surinamese airline SLM.

The local aviation company InselAir flies, yesterday afternoon departed at a quarter past two to Suriname, after this has been postponed once.

Jesus-Leito says that withdrawing the landing rights could be an option, but only in extreme cases. Her talk with the Surinamese Minister for Public Works never discussed this, says Jesus-Leito. She is therefore not afraid that InselAir will be held on the ground because there are debts in Suriname.

The Minister indicated that after InselAir had received its permit from the Suriname government it was retracted. This is when she contacted her Surinamese counterpart to exchange ideas on how this could be solved. Jesus Leito also said that she is still discussing the situation with her counterpart to see how both parties will solve the issue of the debt the airline has in Suriname. But these talks do not have any influence on InselAir’s operations to and from the South American country.
