The Netherlands supports development ferry service ABC-islands
WILLEMSTAD - The Netherlands supports the initiative of developing a quick daily ferry service between Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire. Such interconnection gives a significant boost to the economy of the islands and contributes to improving the movement of people and goods between the islands. This is according to Minister Plasterk of the Interior and Kingdom Relations today in his opening speech at the Kingdom Conference in Curaçao.
A feasibility study commissioned by Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire have started. After completing that, there is clarity about the necessary preconditions as port facilities and customs and immigration procedures.
The economic and social effects for Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire can be enormous and through the daily and fast ferry connection a cheaper transport of people and goods is possible. Now there is not a good boat connection and everything goes through air. With a ferry connection the market for business is suddenly much larger and it is easier and more interesting to be active on several islands. It also creates more opportunities for tourism and other services.
