Tourism sector must focus more on the U.S.
WILLEMSTAD - The tourism sector needs to focus more on the United States of America. This was according to Robertico Croes yesterday in parliament during the presentation of the tourism master plan 2015-2020.
Now the attention is focused on the Netherlands, but a change of that attention to the US would give tourism a more solid foundation, the expert said during his presentation.
The final version of the master plan will be presented at the end of next month, but Croes already mentioned the key points that are mentioned in this plan.
One of the factors that influence the focus on the U.S. is that eight out of ten Americans stay in hotels, while only four out of ten Dutch do so. The majority of these tourists is staying in apartments. This is cheaper for the Dutch tourists, but it hurts the hotels and the government’s pockets.
According to Croes, the tourism sector should aim to bring an annual 70,000 additional tourists to Curaçao.
