Treatment of the budget in Parliament

WILLEMSTAD – The treatment of the adjusted 2013 budget began today in Parliament. President of the Parliament, Mike Franco, said that he would like to see the budget being approved preferably in the week between Christmas and New Year. This will ensure that the Government has an approved budget to work with starting January 1, 2013.

With this statement, the President of Parliament seems to respond to the Committee of Financial Supervision (CFT)’s call, since November this year, urging Parliament to treat the budget as soon as possible. CFT had negative opinion on the draft budget of September 7 presented by the former Government headed by Gerrit Schotte.

The members of the opposition said they have a lot of questions on the budget so the question is whether it will succeed to approve the budget before January 1.
