Unions representing government employees would like to freeze salaries

Government CenterWILLEMSTAD –  Unions representing civil servants have decided during their CGOA joint consultation that the salaries for all government employees should be frozen for two years. The indexing and holiday allowance will not be increased in that period.

The freeze would apply to all government officials. The decision would be a compromise. In introducing the basic health insurance, unions demanded that the agreement would be maintained that government employees should not have to compromise until mid 2015. A salary freeze would be a step in the direction of the government’s austerity measures to remediate the island’s finances.
