Whiteman: “I was not slow to respond to chikungunya outbreak”
WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Health, Nature and Environment, Ben Whiteman denies that his ministry has responded slowly to the outbreak of chikungunya. He said in answer to this question during the weekly press conference of the Council of Ministers.
“The behavior of chikungunya throughout the Caribbean region is the same. You see no difference in other countries. As a government we can do much more, but it cannot be that you break down your departments and then as a sorcerer optimize them again from one day to another.” According to Whiteman, he has already indicated to have found many faults in his Ministry when he took office. This is why his Ministry was not able to respond the way the public wanted.
According to Whiteman citizens should also take their own responsibility. “I have stressed so much about that before the chikungunya outbreak. Since I became minister I have been telling everyone that spraying doesn’t work. We have to keep our premises clean.”
