Wiels stays as Minister Plenipotentiary
WILLEMSTAD – The controversial Marvelyne Wiels, sister of the assassinated former Pueblo Soberano leader and founder, Helmin Wiels, remains the Minister Plenipotentiary in The Hague.
When the opposition party PAR was approached to join the coalition, they demanded that Wiels be removed from that post in The Hague.
First, the PAR wanted to appoint someone of their own on that post. This was met with heavy resistance from the Pueblo Soberano party.
Wiels is highly controversial, especially after a damning report on her performance by the former Ombudsman. Alba Martijn. It was precisely the PAR, which demanded her resignation during the debate on the report in parliament. Now the party is satisfied with the post of deputy Minister Plenipotentiary. Who will be appointed to that post is not yet known.
The leader of the Pueblo Soberano parliamentary faction, Melvin Cijntje also indicated that Marvelyne Wiels is the last remaining member of the Wiels family in the party. They just cannot turn their back on her.
