Cuba and Austria sign cooperation agreement

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) – The first cooperation agreement between Cuba and Austria in the spheres of art and culture materialized on Friday with the signing of a memorandum of understanding to enrich cooperation between the two countries.

Claudia Schmied, Minister of Education, Arts and Culture of Austria, and Cuban Culture Minister Rafael Bernal, signed a document that guarantees exchanges of works of art and specialists of different artistic expressions.

Bilateral cooperation also extends to spheres like theater, music, dance, visual arts and literature.

During the meeting, the two parties praised the Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization.

Bernal asserted that the document is an important step in the strengthening of relations between the two nations.

For her part, Schmied announced that artists from his country would like to be present once again at the Havana Biennial and expressed her wish of carrying out in the future an Austrian Film Festival in Cuba and a Cuban Film Festival in Austria.

She also invited all participants to visit the Austrian exhibition "Desiring the Real” that will be opened at Havana’s Wilfredo Lam Contemporary Art center until December 2.
