Cuba to expand internet implementation and access

Havana CubaHAVANA - Cuba plans to develop computerization of Cuban society and access to the internet, said Maimir Mesa, minister of communications.

During the inauguration of the sixth Latin American Telecommunication Congress, the minister noted that this process is conceived as a space for access to information, social communication and cooperation in terms of sustainable human development.

In this regard, he assured that, despite the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States government for more than six decades, Cuba is updating its economic model, aiming to achieve a productive, efficient and sustainable system.

Mesa added that the meeting is also useful to discuss and agree positions to facilitate the implementation of public policies, the development of ICT and the strengthening of the digital ecosystem.

The main goal of the telecommunications congress taking place in Matanzas province is promoting, as Mesa stated, a platform to boost exchange and cooperation among its members.
