Fred, tropical storm number six
WILLEMSTAD - Fred is the sixth tropical storm with a name. Danny and Erika preceded him. The latest weather system is unique. Usually tropical depressions occur near the Cape Verde Islands.
On the way to the Caribbean they become a hurricane. But Fred is already so strong, that he's likely to rage as a hurricane over the Cape Verde Islands. That’s a record there.
Meteorologists expect that Fred will then quickly disappear because of the cooler air and water temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean. Chances are that good old Fred will never arrive in this region.
