Minister Lake meets with Corporate Governance Council

MinVROMI ML meets with CGCPHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake met with the Corporate Governance Council (CGC) last Thursday.

Minister Lake wanted to brief the CGC on a number of matters including the additional members for the Supervisory Board of GEBE; the acquisition of all shares of GEBE by the Government of Sint Maarten; and the possibility for ratification of GEBE’s responsibility for street lights as described in Article 15 of the concession of August 26, 2010.

The Minister also discussed new board members for the St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation.

Minister Lake was also briefed about the procedures when submitting documentation to the CGC.

“I like to be on top of things as part of my back to basics approach.  The meeting with the CGC was informative from both sides.  We covered the areas that needed to be touched upon in this meeting.

“An elucidation was given on a number of topics and the CGC at the same time requested some additional documentation in order to facilitate the process that is currently on-going.  I was informed by the CGC that I was the first Minister who ever wanted to meet with them.

“That is who I am, my down to earth basic approach is to touch base with all, as we all have a job to do and a role to play in building country Sint Maarten from the bottom up.  I would like to thank the CGC for their time and look forward to a continued good working relationship during my tenure,” Minister Maurice Lake said on Sunday.

Minister Lake has asked GEBE to give a presentation to the CGC with respect to the current share process.  Lake’s vision with respect to this is being transparent and open and allowing other parties an opportunity to be informed about the share process.

“The CGC was also informed about the draft Energy Policy which should be ready in November.  I am very pleased with the working relationship with GEBE management and team under the leadership of Romelio Maduro.

“Much has been done in the past three-months since I became Minister in the interests of the people and this country,” Minister Lake concluded on Sunday.
