Top South American diplomats arrive in Suriname to meet President Bouterse
PARAMARIBO - Delcy Rodríguez, the foreign minister of Venezuela, and Ernesto Samper, the secretary general of UNASUR, arrived on Monday in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, where they will hold meetings with President Dési Bouterse, according to Venezuela state media.
The Venezuelan foreign minister reported her arrival in Paramaribo via Twitter. Rodriguez said she is in Suriname on behalf of Venezuela, the presidency pro tempore of UNASUR
Rodriguez said via Twitter, "Having meetings with the president of Suriname, Dési Bouterse, and some ministers of his Cabinet".
There have been an interestingly high number of visits between Paramaribo and Caracas in recent times.
More recently, Suriname has been experiencing economic and political tension.
