Venezuela receives an application for asylum from Snowden

SnowdenCARACAS – Venezuela has received an application for asylum from the U.S. whistleblower Edward Snowden. This is according to the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro  and reported by the Venezuelan media. The Latin American country had already offered asylum to Snowden last Saturday during the independence day celebration.

Snowden is currently in the transit area of the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow because the U.S. Government revoked his passport impeding him from further travel.

Asylum request

President Maduro confirmed that the government has received a letter. The asylum application of Snowden,  "this young man is hunted by the Empire," Maduro said. "He will have to decide when he wants to travel to Venezuela."
