Venezuelan parliamentary elections to take place on December 6
CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuela's electoral authority (CNE) announced on Monday that parliamentary elections will be held on December 6, contrary to opposition speculation that President Nicolas Maduro would suspend the vote.
CNE president Tibisay Lucena said the elections were always scheduled for this year and added that her team provided all the assistance to the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable for their internal elections last May. The governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) will hold its internal elections next Sunday.
Lucena also said that more than 504,000 new voters will vote in next elections.
Candidate nominations will take place from August 3 to 7, while the political campaign will be held from November 13 to December 3.
