Athletics Week on Curacao: September 11- 18

veld-salu-1972WILLEMSTAD - The Curacao Athletics Association is at the eve of a very special week. This year the association celebrates its 50th anniversary and there are many festivities during the Athletics Week Curacao. The week September 11th – 18th is fully dedicated to the sport.

There will be activities on different locations. The takeoff is on September 11th in the beautiful surroundings of “Landhuis Wechi” with a Cross Country Competition organized by athletics club The Eagles. This competition, where there will be both running and walking, is accessible for everybody.

One of the highlights will be the showing of the locally produced movie “CHURANDY, the road to China” in the theater of Luna Blou on Wednesday September 14th at 18.00u.

Another important moment for the association is the formalization of the agreement with the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association) for the organization of the Flow Carifta Games 2017. A delegation of the NACAC will be present here.

On Saturday September 17th the association participates in the “Sport-o-Ton” which is organized by the FDDK as a fundraiser for the maintenance of the Sentro Deportivo Korsou (SDK). The athletes will participate between 16.00u and 17.00u.

On September 18th the week is sealed with the relay at the Waaigat in Punda. Both athletes and organizations will participate in this event. Caimin Douglas, sprinter and expert on relays, invites organizations with a personal video message on Facebook.

Sunday September 11: Cross Country competition at Landhuis Wechi (The Eagels)

Wednesday September 14: Showing “Churandy, te road to China” in Luna Blou Theater

Friday September 16: Official ceremony for Flow Carifta Games 2017

Saturday September 17: “Sport-o-ton” at the SDK Stadium

Sunday September 18: Waaigat Relay – Relay in the heart of Curacao

With the proceeds from the activities, a program will be prolonged to guide talented young athletes. This way they can be prepared for large (international) competitions such as the Carifta Games, The Dutch, European and Caribbean championships. The association asks everyone to donate during the Athletics Week Curacao.
