CHATA Dive Task Force – Dive Against Debris
On Saturday July 4th, 2015, the CHATA Dive Task Force (CDTF) organized a land/underwater clean up at Playa Piskado, Westpunt. An overwhelming turnout was witnessed. Attendees, totaled over 130. A fantastic showing between beach cleaners and divers alike. There were divers in the water from 12.30hrs till 16.30hrs and a total of 6m3 of waste was collected and divers were impressed as well with the quality of the reefs and the marine life they encountered. They all left with a feeling of satisfaction, knowing they made a difference for Curacao.
Following the cleanup, the CDTF held a fun raffle with donated prizes from various local dive shops (1st price a regulator set) and a celebratory BBQ with free Presidente Beer, Barefoot Wine and assorted soft drinks. A wonderful cross section made up this stellar group of volunteers. A mixture of tourists, locals, expats, interns, staff, crew, FOL and the Dutch Navy. (own initiative as a group of friends, not through the Navy) with the youngest volunteer diver being 12 years old. The CDTF wishes to thank all the volunteers that attended. We made a difference for Curacao together.
Thank you to all the sponsors! Presidente Curacao, Barefoot Wines Curacao, NOVA, Selikor, Coca Cola, Bahia Apartments. A special thanks to GO WEST Diving for hosting this event, supplying the tanks and providing a boat.
