Curaçao is now ready for its Carnival Road March song
WILLEMSTAD - Yesterday, Carnival Road March singers and composers had the opportunity to register their participation at the Tumba Festival 2016. 28 bands registered to participate with a total of 63 tumbas.
These 63 Tumbas are spread over three days starting. The Tumba Festival begins on Monday, January 18.
The Carnival Road March is the musical composition played most often along the parade route during Carnival. Originating as part of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, the term has been applied to other Caribbean carnivals, including Curaçao’s.
In Curaçao the Road March title has been given out every year since 1971. Scoring is based upon a rank-and-points system devised by a Tumba Festival judging committee before the start of the festival. The Road March title is among the most prestigious in Curaçao Carnival.
