Curaçao Medical Laboratory Services Awarded ISO Accreditation

WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch Council for Accreditation (Raad voor Accreditatie) awarded Medical Laboratory Services (MLS) with their ISO accreditation. The Curaçao company is the first laboratory in the former Netherlands Antilles to achieve ISO accreditation. Now that the laboratory is accredited, its clients have more certainty about the quality of services provided.

The actual accreditation certificate was presented on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 by a representative of the Council for Accreditation during a ceremony at the Marriott Hotel. The ISO accreditation indicates that MLS actively works on maintaining quality. Also, the organization’s operational procedures, theoretical and practical knowledge are all in place. This became evident after benchmarking against internationally accepted criteria as defined in ISO standard 15189.

Medical Laboratory Services, a medical laboratory, was established on December 1st, 1992. The laboratory conducts medical, clinical chemistry, haematological, serological and microbiological tests.

A team of independent experts will perform an annual audit of MLS. Every four years there will be a comprehensive audit which should provide evidence if the laboratory has managed to keep up with ISO requirements. If this is the case, the accreditation will be renewed.
