‘Dogs sometimes wait months in a cage for their verdict’

stray dogsWILLEMSTAD - Director of the Animal Protection Service Gregory Berry is worried about dogs that are stuck in small cages for weeks while awaiting a verdict. He reacts to the video that recently appeared in which the director of the veterinary service can be seen stabbing a dog is stabbed.

According to Berry, this is not the right way to kill a dog sentenced to death, but he can imagine that sometimes it cannot be otherwise. “If a dog is in a small pen for months without proper care, it makes sense that it becomes wild and aggressive. Administering a tranquilizer will not work, because you cannot get close,” says Berry.

Berry emphasizes that animals are treated with a different technique at the shelter. The animals that have to be put to sleep receive a tranquilizer. “But these are animals that we know and that know us. They are not afraid of us.”
