First bird’s nest destroyed

black necked stiltWILLEMSTAD - The first nest of the Black-necked stilt has been destroyed by dogs. This is according to the Curacao Footprint Foundation.

The breeding season has started and the foundation insists on being extra careful and keeping dogs on the leash for a while. Or don’t walk with dogs in coastal areas and the salt pans.

The foundation warns that birds that have a nest often skimmed over people’s head: a sign that they want them to go away. It is very important that quad riders do not ride through the areas mentioned. And also mountain bikers and hikers are asked to be observant and to avoid areas where breeding activity can be seen.
